NINE INCH NAILS Drummer Says 'Fatigue And Exhaustion' Are To Blame For Concert Cancellations
September 22, 2005NINE INCH NAILS drummer Jerome Dillon has commented on the group's abbreviated set in San Diego last Friday and subsequent Tucson concert cancellation as a result of his being hospitalized.
According to RollingStone.com, forty minutes into NIN's set in San Diego, after a ferocious run through of "Gave Up", the band broke. Moments later, Trent Reznor announced from behind a transparent curtain, "We've got a medical emergency. We'll be back with you in a minute or two." About ten minutes later though, as fans milled about in the darkened arena, Reznor came back out and updated the crowd. "Here's what's up, no bullshit," he said. "Jerome came to me and said, 'My heart is pounding and I'm having chest pains.' We're all kind of freaked out back here."
Writing to his official forums, Dillon stated about the incident, "Not exactly the way I wanted to start the arena tour. Fatigue and exhaustion are to blame for what happened with me the other night. Incidentally, I did not experience 'chest pains' — but I did spend the night at the hospital for observation. I recieved a clean bill of health the next morning and couldn't get back on the bus fast enough. I can't tell you all how much I appreciate all the kind words — I'm truly at a loss...
"To the people of San Diego, especially those that waited on the bridge to wish me well as I was being wheeled to the ambulance, that was a moment I won't forget… thank you."
